Building Tanzania’s Carbon Markets: Progress, Opportunities and the Role of Finance

  • Tanzania Pavilion, Antalya EXPO Center Antalya Türkiye (map)

Over the past few years, Tanzania has established itself as one of Africa’s most active carbon markets. It has introduced a dedicated regulatory framework and set up a National Carbon Monitoring Centre, and more than one hundred projects are now registered, with the first already generating credits. As the market matures, attention is turning to how this momentum can be translated into investment at scale, and to the role that finance must play in connecting a growing pipeline of high-integrity projects with international buyers and capital.

Hosted by CRDB Bank, this session will bring together leading voices from regulatory, development finance, investment and the carbon market to reflect on the progress Tanzania has made, the opportunities that lie ahead, and the conditions needed to attract sustained private capital into the sector.

As Tanzania’s largest bank, the country’s only Green Climate Fund-accredited financial institution and the issuer of its first green bond, CRDB has played a leading role in shaping climate finance in Tanzania. Join us to hear more from the Bank on how the financial sector can support the next phase of the country’s carbon market development.

Please note: this event is hosted in the Tanzania Pavilion (Blue Zone) of COP31. Attendees must be a Blue Zone badge holder.
