Climate Change and the Effect on Agriculture

  • Cape Town 5 Buitengracht Street Cape Town, WC, 8001 South Africa (map)

Increasing temperatures and sea levels, changing precipitation patterns and more extreme weather are threatening human health and safety, food and water security and socio-economic development across the globe, but even more acutely in Africa. Agriculture is the backbone of Africa’s economy and accounts for the majority of livelihoods across the continent. Africa is therefore a vulnerability “hot spot” for climate variability and change impacts.

Encouragingly, Africa boasts a seemingly limitless potential for renewable energy, which can be harnessed to provide reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions for all. With a focus on the agricultural sector, our headline speakers will discuss innovative ways in which the many climate challenges can be addressed to allow the continent to become more climate-resilient, while also exploring investment opportunities in green hydrogen, the large-scale renewable energy projects, and future-proof infrastructure that will support the continent’s greening industries for years to come.
