Catalysing Africa’s Gas-to-Power Solutions

  • Cape Town 1 Cullinan Street Cape Town, WC, 8001 South Africa (map)

Africa has an abundance of natural resources from renewables to fossil fuels. However, no one energy source is enough to meet the continent’s energy requirements, and a mix of solutions will be required to form a roadmap for Africa’s energy transition.

One positive opportunity for Africa lies in the development of gas-to-power solutions. These range from utilising natural gas as a way to power Africa’s industrial base to the development of LNG pipelines for export, as seen in 2021 in Mozambique. Both options could be considered a key component for Africa’s energy mix. The major constraint to this will be securing adequate gas infrastructure. In some instances, this can take up to 10 years to develop and would require the agreement of multiple and complex stakeholders. Nevertheless, investment opportunities exist in developing gas as a cleaner energy prospect for the continent.

During this panel discussion, we will hear from our speakers about the opportunities and challenges in developing gas-to-power solutions on the continent.
