Invest Africa will host its 14th annual Mining Series in Cape Town, bringing together key stakeholders from across Africa’s mining value chain, governments, investors and the global mining community. The programme will explore the forces reshaping Africa’s mining sector and the continent’s increasingly strategic role in global mineral supply chains.
With critical minerals now firmly at the intersection of energy security, economic policy and geopolitics, Africa is facing a significant opportunity to translate its mineral wealth into broader economic value. The IEA’s 2026 outlook highlights continued supply concerns for copper and lithium, while policy changes in major producing markets such as the DRC are increasingly influencing global supply dynamics.
Across the series, discussions will explore critical minerals and changing global supply chains, the push for local processing and beneficiation, investment in mining and supporting infrastructure, and the role of African countries in developing regional and cross-border value chains. We will also examine the changing competitive landscape, including growing international interest in securing diversified sources of minerals and the implications for Africa of continued concentration in global refining and processing.
Other key themes will include access to capital, infrastructure and energy constraints, technology and innovation, responsible mining, the formalisation of artisanal and small-scale mining, and the role of government and industry in creating investable mining ecosystems. The programme will consider how Africa can move further up the value chain while creating jobs, strengthening industrial capacity and ensuring that the next phase of mining investment delivers broader economic benefits.
