Dr Desne Masie, Chief Strategist, IC Intelligence

Dr Desné Masie is an economist and thought leader, specialising in international political economy, sustainability and capital markets. She has held senior roles in academia, media and finance in the UK and South Africa. She is the Chief Strategist and Founding Partner at IC Intelligence. Dr Masie is an editorial director at IC Publications and the executive producer of the African Business podcast. 

She has considerable experience advising international investors and policy makers on global macro issues. She was the director of the Investec Investment Institute, the corporate relations manager of the Royal African Society and a senior associate at Global Counsel. She was also a fellow at the Wits School of Governance, where she lectured public economics and supervised doctoral students in international development and economics.

Dr Masie is an accomplished public speaker and author, and is a former columnist for Business Day and a former senior editor of the Financial Mail. She holds an MSc in Finance & Financial Law from SOAS, and a PhD in Finance from the University of Edinburgh.
