Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba
Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania
Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba is a Tanzanian economist and politician who has served as Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania since November 2025, following his appointment by H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. As Prime Minister, he oversees government business in Parliament and coordinates the implementation of national policies and development priorities.
From 2021 to 2025, he served as Minister for Finance, playing a key role in strengthening macroeconomic stability, enhancing domestic revenue mobilization and advancing Tanzania’s economic reform agenda, infrastructure development and financial inclusion. He has also held the portfolios of Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Minister for Home Affairs, and Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, and has been the elected Member of Parliament for Iramba West Constituency since 2010.
Before entering frontline politics, he worked at the Bank of Tanzania as an Economist I from 2006 to 2010, gaining extensive experience in monetary policy, macroeconomic analysis and financial systems management. Throughout his career, he has represented Tanzania in regional and international economic forums, engaging with multilateral financial institutions and development partners.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree and a PhD in Economics, all from the University of Dar es Salaam.
