Lord Popat: The Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo

Lord Popat is a Conservative Peer, Party Whip and former Minister of the Crown for Business and Transport in the House of Lords. He was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Uganda and Rwanda in January 2016. In September 2020, Lord Popat’s brief was extended to cover the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since Lord Popat appointment, trade with Uganda and Rwanda has increased fivefold, through securing a number of flagship deals. He is committed to the challenge of increasing trade and investment ties with Africa and is always promoting the tremendous potential of the African subcontinent.

Lord Popat is a and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Rwanda APPG and Vice Chair of the Commonwealth APPG.
