Robert (Hutch) Hutchinson

Hutch is based in Nairobi, Kenya and specializes in working with business leaders and investors on matters relating to emerging and enterprise risk, business resilience and crisis management. His work enables organisations to be secure, resilient and compliant in their market entry, operations and sustainable growth into and across the region.

Hutch served, as a commissioned officer in the British Army, for ten years seeing active frontline duty on three operational deployments. Hutch’s career culminated, after U.K. Staff College, in developing cross-governmental cyber policy and information fusion.

Following his time in the military, Hutch was a risk and business intelligence team leader for a FTSE registered extractive company in Tanzania. Hutch also worked at PwC as the Africa Business Resilience Director, supporting over 9,000 partners and staff across over 16 countries in the sub-Saharan region. Hutch was recently the Managing Partner of Control Risks (East Africa).

Highlights of Hutch’s experience include

  • Crisis management support to an extractive facing a multi-billion (USD) regulatory fine related to ESG matters.

  • Developing regional enterprise risk management and business resilience programmes.

  • Assessing, monitoring and shaping market entry and operational risk management in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Sudan.

  • Developing and delivering incident management and business continuity training to business leaders.

Personal Note

Hutch sits on the Board of the British Chamber of Commers (Kenya) and is also a Non-Executive Director of Mindex Group a Mauritian fintech platform the focuses tokenization to unlock and scale investment opportunities in the region by leveraging blockchain.

Hutch read law at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and Legal Practice at the College of Law.

He commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2006.
