Zainab Animashaun, Senior Analyst, Control Risks

Zainab Animashaun is a Senior Analyst in Control Risks’ Global Risks Analysis team, based in Lagos. She advises on political and operational risks across the African continent. Zainab has over 10 years’ experience as a legal, risk and compliance professional and has advised many public and private sector organisations across the African continent.

Zainab supports clients operating across the region with bespoke consultancy engagements and regularly contributes to Control Risks’ risk-monitoring subscription service.

Before joining Control Risks, Zainab was a Legal Advisor in the Chief Investment Office at Rwanda Development Board, where she reviewed national investment policies and negotiated strategic investment agreements on behalf of the Government of Rwanda. She had prior experience as a Partner at Primera Africa Legal, where she advised the Government of Nigeria on public policy, public-private partnerships (PPP), and assisted multinationals with entry into and doing business in Nigeria. She was also Policy and Strategic Planning Adviser at the Nigerian Bar Association, where she advised on access to justice, conflict, and security issues.

Zainab holds a Master of Laws in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick and is a qualified Barrister and Solicitor in Nigeria. She is an Alumna of the Oxford Policy Fellowship and has published articles on public policy and economic development issues in Africa. Zainab has also appeared on African media outlets like Channels, Arise and Metro TV to discuss emerging political, economic and security issues in African countries.
