Position Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Invest Africa team in a country head position. You will be joining a dynamic team in a fast-paced role, working for a company that is positioned as the go-to platform for investment and business in Africa. This role will suit a well organised, highly motivated individual who has experience in trade and investment in Africa. We are seeking an individual with a keen interest in and a good knowledge of Africa.
Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an experienced Country Head to lead the organisation’s strategy and commercial growth in the UAE. This is a unique opportunity for a business development professional with a deep interest in African affairs and trade and investment trends.
You will be responsible for the development of the Invest Africa profile and network in the UAE for Africa. This role involves working across the three strategic pillars within the Invest Africa organisation, namely (1) Membership, (2) Connect Events (3) Consult.
Main Responsibilities
1. Membership Relationship
Engage with members within the UAE chapter network and maintain relationships
Promote the Invest Africa platform to regional corporates, DFI’s, multi-nationals and investors
Develop the network by building a pipeline of prospective members and partners
Attend external networking events, conferences and lectures
Membership Events:
Design content for the UAE Invest Africa events programme
Invite/manage speakers for the member events
Market the events to members within the network to ensure relevant audience
Find hosts, organise logistics, manage guest list and event on the day
Partnerships:
Build and maintain relationships with relevant organisations and institutions
Maintaining bi-lateral partnerships including government, media and trade associations
Public Affairs:
Be a key point of contact for Invest Africa, spearheading connectivity with the UAE Government Ministries, the African Governments and Ministers, Embassies in the UAE, and their counterparts in Africa.
Communications:
Regular communication with the Invest Africa network based in UAE and beyond.
2. Invest Africa Connect Programme
The Africa Debate-UAE is the flagship event in the UAE and the Country Head will be required to Project Manage the event along with support from the team based in London and other locations. The Programme and Strategic direction will be in line with The Africa Debate inn London and the regional edition in the UAE will be part of the overall Brand of The Africa Debate.
This will encompass the following responsibilities:
Venue & logistics management
Event Sponsorship
Delegate marketing
Government liaison
3. Invest Africa Consult
Identify and develop commercial opportunities with Invest Africa members, strategic partners, investment promotion agencies, African governments to promote our consultancy offering in the UAE.
To increase our network of clients requiring strategic advice and consultancy services including areas such as market entry, business development, market intelligence, strategic communications and brand profiling.
Qualification Requirements
Degree level qualification
Knowledge of African affairs, trade, and investment trends
Strategic and results-driven mindset
A self-starter with a strong work ethic and desire to learn
Able to work independently and remotely with the HQ in London
Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude
Relevant experience in key account management and business development
Excellent organisational, time management and written skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
Ability to multi-task within a dynamic team, work under pressure & meet deadlines
Fluent in written and spoken English, and an African language or Arabic would be advantageous
Some travel may be required
