Cas Coovadia

Cas Coovadia is the outgoing CEO of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), having served in this role since April 2020. He previously spent 15 years as Managing Director of The Banking Association South Africa (BASA), where he established the organisation as a leading voice for the banking sector.
Cas has a long history of activism and public service. In the 1980s and 1990s, he played a pivotal role in South Africa’s civic movement and the United Democratic Front, leading negotiations on restructuring local government during the country's transition to democracy. He also co-founded the South African National Civic Organisation and served as its Vice-President.
He holds a BCom degree from the University College, Durban, and certifications from Wharton and the Kagiso School of Leadership. Cas remains active in civic life, serving as Chairperson of the National Business Initiative and as a board member for organisations such as the Centre for Development and Enterprise and Wits University.
