Gary Vaughan-Smith, Chief Investment Officer, SilverStreet Capital LLP

Gary Vaughan-Smith is a founding partner and Chief Investment Officer of SilverStreet Capital LLP, a leading investor into the African agricultural sector. SilverStreet was founded in 2007 and its objectives are to achieve attractive returns for investors as well as substantial positive social, environmental and climate impacts though its investments.

SilverStreet manages/advises the largest African agricultural fund and, has an established track record investing across the agricultural value chain. Its investments have included the seed sector, primary production, processing, protein, logistics and storage in eight countries in Southern and East Africa. SilverStreet implements high ESG and governance standards across its investments and has won a number of awards for agricultural, emerging market and impact investing.

Between 2001 and 2006, Gary was Head of the Alternative Investment Group at ABN AMRO Asset Management. Between 1990 and 2001, he was at Gartmore Investments Ltd and was head of the Global Portfolio team. Gary is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Cambridge University and a BSc (Hons) in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Cape Town.
